August 2022 Date Jar: Pick a city close by and be a tourist for the day!

What’s the ‘Date Jar’?

When we got engaged, our friends gave us a jar filled with date ideas so that we could continue ‘dating’ even after we got married. Now, after being married over 6 years, we think about that jar and understand how truly important it is to set aside intentional time to have fun and try new things together. Because of that, we gift all of our couples with a date jar filled with different date ideas, some that we have personally enjoyed, and some new ideas that we have always wanted to try!

As we encourage couples just beginning their forever together, we thought it would be fun to share our dates to inspire all our friends, families, and couples to continue pursuing each other in marriage.

This month, we decided to be tourists in our own city: Nashville! Since we have only lived here for about 18 months, it was easy to find some new things to do. The top thing that came to mind for both of us was the Country Music Hall of Fame. Living just outside the country music capital of the world, visiting the Hall of Fame seems like some kind of initiation we just had to do!

One of my very favorite things is going out to breakfast. So we decided to start our date day at a new breakfast spot downtown. We chose 417 Union, a cozy spot in a historic 100-year-old building that was once an insurance brokerage house in the early 1900’s.

After a delicious breakfast we headed over to the Country Music Hall of Fame. We decided to go big and do all 3 tours offered there: the museum, Hatch Show Print tour, and the Studio B tour. It was amazing to see all the historical memorabilia from the biggest and most influential people in country music, and then see where stars like Elvis Presley and Dolly Parton recorded some of their biggest hits. Our favorite part was the Hatch Show Print tour where we got to learn about the history of letterpress show posters and even print our own! We definitely feel more like locals now 😉

We finished the day at Beau’s absolute favorite spot downtown: Legendairy Milkshake Bar. This place serves the most incredible milkshakes I have ever seen. Countless ice cream flavors and toppings you wouldn’t believe including full slices of cheesecake, donuts, and even cupcakes! But a little fun fact about Beau…he is very allergic to dairy. So he has NEVER been able to order a real milkshake…until now. Legendairy has a dairy-free shake that tastes just like the real thing! So of course we had to finish out our date day with a dairy-free cookies and cream shake complete with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and a jumbo toasted marshmallow.

This was a really fun day for us to unplug, enjoy time together, and experience something new. We highly recommend playing tourist in your city sometime! We may just have to do it again soon 🙂
